Congrats once more to Ciaran Byrne and Donal Buckley on a fantastic MIMS swim! 28.5 miles around Manhattan Island, New York in 8 hr 39 and 8 hrs 32 respectively. Well done lads!!
This week (hopefully tomorrow), Owen O’Keefe will attempt to circumnavigate Cape Clear Island – this has not been done before! Best of luck Owen!!
Thursday, Eddie Irwin departs for California to prepare for his swim from Catalina to Island to Los Angeles (20 miles). Eddie would be the first swimmer from Ireland to complete the famous Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming: Manhattan, English Channel and Catalina.
Two more Sandycove Island swimmers are planning the same Catalina crossing and Triple Crown in Sept and Oct this year.
And of course, Stephen Redmond is attempting the Tsugaru crossing again – he leaves for Japan this coming Friday.
We have the first of our English Channel Aspirants heading off at the end of this week to await their opportunity to swim their dream. More on this later.
On behalf of the Sandycove Island Swimming Club, would like to wish all of you the very best!!
