First ever official SKELLIG ROCK Swim – Saturday 30th June

SKELLIG ROCK SWIM – Saturday 30th June, departing Ballinskelligs Pier 11:00.

This will be the first recorded group swim around Skellig Michael, a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE site (one of two in Ireland) lying approx 15km South West Valentia Island.
The swim itself is approx. 3.5 km and owing to the exposed nature of the swim, entrants are required to have undertaken two recognised open water swims of an equivalent distance within the last 12 months. A limited number of two person relay teams are also being facilitated.

Entries for this epic swim are now being accepted online – see Valentia Island Triathlon Club website:

Go to “OTHER EVENTS”

The entry fee is EURO 95 and the event is in aid of Ballinskelligs Inshore Rescue.
This price reflects the costs (mainly fuel) of supporting such a swim and the relatively small number of participants (expecting 20-25)… printed tee shirts, latex caps and a BBQ are included as well as the boat ride (there – and back!).

There will be approx. 10 boats and 6-8 kayaks supporting. Weather permitting swimmers will also be able to go ashore and explore Skelling Michael.
In the event of adverse weather there IS an alternative swim PLUS fallback date of Saturday 28th July… you WILL get your feet wet and have a memorable day!!
