Loch Allua Swim, Sept 10th, 2011
Write-up by Diarmuid Herlihy, Swim Organiser
We had a great day for the swim with very strong winds down the lake. 18 swimmers took part, beginning from a new start point 1km further back to make it closer to 8km.
3 buoys marked the swim course and there was loads of water in the lake due to our Irish ‘summer’ weather. Most swimmers remarked that the swim was a real challenge due to the wind and extra distance.
Extra fast flow on the narrow section of the river gave swimmers a great push as most were tired on entering the river section of the course.
If you swam on Saturday, count yourself up there in open water swimming. Fresh water, strong winds and a challenging course to navigate gave a feeling of being out there in the wild. If you missed the swim…well, there is always next year! This is truly a unique place to swim in a pristine environment. Well done to the elite swimmers who swam the course.
